Into the Wild – Weekly Musings on our Yard’s Transformation | July 14th – 20th

Another hot week, so we haven’t been doing anything in the yard.
Gardening:

  • It’s been so hot that our arugula has bolted.

Flora:

  • Spotted the first yellow leaf – it is WAY too early for that!
  • Landscape Direct was giving out free plants to residents of select cities, and this week was Edmonton’s turn! I’ve got a free Winterberry Holly (Mr. Poppins) shrub on the way.
  • Our Spirea in the side yard bloomed this week, but it’s absolutely covered in aphids. Eww!
  • One of the mystery plants bloomed – it is some sort of fleabane. So pretty!

Fauna:

  • We haven’t seen many birds in our backyard lately, but we did spot three or four robins, likely the parents and their fledglings.
  • We finally spotted a tiny house wren after only hearing it for a while.

Thanks for reading! Until next time,
Tracey
