Yardwork:
- On Sunday, I spent most of the day outside weeding, removing plants from the flower bed we are leveling, and sifting soil to move back to the back flower bed so that I can finish grading and filling it.
- Monday and Tuesday brought heavy rain, but by Wednesday afternoon, the ground had dried up enough for us to get some yard work done. I sifted another wheelbarrow of soil to move to the front, and decided it was time to start bringing rocks over. However, I ran out of time before heading out to meet a friend and his pup, so I focused on digging up some weeds instead.
- Our firepit is situated in a low-lying area where I wanted it. I added some soil to level it out and create the perfect spot.

Gardening:
- I added soil to the back flower garden so it was graded and filled, and while weeding the side of the yard I transplanted some plants over into the garden. I hadn’t planned on working on this garden this year, so for now I am just adding a few random plants from other parts of the yard and keeping what was already there. However, I have some other plans for it next year.

Flora:
- Our Strawberry plants and Orange Trumpet Creeper Vine arrived. Cannot wait for these to grow!
Fauna:
- The hummingbirds are getting close, so I’ve been tracking their location on the Hummingbird Sightings and Migration Map. I set out some nectar in one of our feeders for when (or if) they arrive. I’m unsure if the previous owners fed them, so they might not visit our yard. Fingers crossed that they do!
- A Ruby-Crowned Kinglet visited our yard – such a tiny bird!

Miscellaneous:
- It rained on Monday, so I spent most of the day indoors, browsing an online sale. I ended up ordering a bird bath, the archway for our back gate, and a poker stick for our firepit that has a hook so we can take off the spark screen safely.
- My plans were altered on Wednesday evening (and Thursday) when we had to rush our poor pup to the vet emergency room after he got attacked by an off-leash dog. (Wild how things can happen in an instant) We spent the entire evening there, and if I never have to sit in a vet ER waiting room again, I would be deeply grateful. I left emotionally drained and feel so bad for what other pet owners had gone through that night. On Thursday, I stayed indoors to care for our groggy boy. Thankfully our dog is doing just fine!
- We had an incredible aurora borealis display one night. It was amazing to run outside and lay on our front lawn to witness the event.
- Fire season is upon us. Wildfire smoke blanketed the sky on Saturday. Ugh.
